BAHAWALPUR, Feb 5: A senior railway official visited Bahawalpur on Monday and inspected the place where six children were crushed to death by the Lahore-bound Karachi Express train on Sunday. No regular probe was conducted.

Bahawalpur Station Master Nazir Ahmed said that Multan Divisional Transportation Officer Waqar Ahmed visited the accident scene to make on-the-spot technical queries. Later, Ahmed offered condolence to the bereaved families. Source said the statement of the parents to the police showed that there was no fault of the driver.

Fayyaz, the sole survivor of the accident, was still under shock. When this correspondent asked him to narrate the accident, he fell short of words. The area people said neither railway nor the government conveyed any intimation of financial compensation to the bereaved families.

HUMAN CHAIN: Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal activists formed a human chain and took out a rally to mark the Kashmir Solidarity Day. MPA Dr Syed Waseam Akhtar and DCO Muhammad Ashraf addressed the rally.

SUICIDE: Liaquat Ali from Chak 197 committed suicide by jumping in front of a passenger train near Chak 17, Fordwah in Hasilpur. The man reportedly committed suicide following domestic disputes.
